| Your first consultation at the office may be lengthy because it may involve taking a thorough medical history, drawing blood for laboratory tests, and completion of a physical examination. Depending upon your special needs, we may also order an electrocardiogram (EKG) of your heart, lung function tests, and other studies. Your course of treatment will be based upon evaluation of your tests and examination. Please bring all of your prescribed medications to your first office appointment.
During your first visit you will have the opportunity to meet with our Patient Services Director for the purpose of financial counseling. We will assist you, as much as possible, by filing your primary insurance and answering any questions you may have. You will complete a Medical History Form and Patient Information Sheet. Please notify our office immediately of changes of address, telephone number, insurance, employment status, or any other registration information. Follow-up visits usually involve a CBC (complete blood count), performed by our laboratory staff, and a visit with the physician, nurse practitioner, or nurse. Your chemotherapy treatment, or other intravenous treatments, will be administered in a special area designed for your care and comfort. A family member or friend is usually welcome to stay with you during your treatments. This might not be possible on days with an extremely heavy treatment schedule. Please bring your insurance card with you to each visit as you may be asked to present it to our front office staff to be scanned into your chart. |
