American Cancer Society Services
- Transportation – with Road to Recovery, volunteer drivers provide rides for cancer patients who are unable to secure their own transportation to and from treatment.
- Lodging – When cancer patients and their families must travel more than 60 miles for treatment, the Guest Room Program provides low-cost hotel rooms.
- For Women – It is important for breast cancer patients to connect with survivors who have “been there.” Through Reach to Recovery, specially trained volunteers offer one-on-one support and information – in person or by phone – to help address the concerns of those facing breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, recurrence or recovery.
- Look Good…Feel Better is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Trained, volunteer cosmetologists teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair loss using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. A free cosmetic kit, wigs, scarves and other accessories are available. In addition, self-help materials including a video and instructional booklet are available to those who cannot attend a group program or one-on-one consultation. Call 1-800-395-LOOK for programs available in your area.
- For Men – With Man to Man, men with prostate cancer have a chance to talk with someone who’s been in their shoes. This community-based program offers group education, discussion and support for prostate cancer patients from prostate cancer survivors.
- For Everyone – The Cancer Survivor’s Network, created by and for cancer survivors and families, connects with others who have been touched by cancer. This virtual community gives survivors a chance to share personal experiences, using a free interactive service that can be accessed online through www.cancer.org or by phone at 1-877-333-4673.
